  • COMMUNICATE using simple words and phrases, break tasks down into step-by-step instructions, use a friendly tone of voice, talk slowly using short, simple, and familiar words

 

  • Provide VISUAL information such as schedules, notes, photos, and signs, use facial expressions, gestures, and demonstration

 

  • Provide TOUCH such as handshakes, hugs, hand holding

Dementia is an umbrella term for many cognitive loss conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Vascular dementia, Lewy Body dementia, Mixed dementia, Fronto-Temperal Lob dementia, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.

 

Dementia is a general, progressive decline and loss of cognitive abilities related to changes in the brain. Persons with dementia may experience loss in mental abilities including memory, learning, communication, social behaviors, emotions, judgement, reasoning, and impulse control. Dementia impacts daily life and reduces a persons ability to perform everyday activities.
